Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 29, 2026
Short version. OpenChat does not collect, store, or transmit your data to us. We do not operate servers. Your conversations, attachments, and Flows live in your device's protected storage. Your API key lives in the iOS Keychain on this device only.
When you send a message, your prompt goes directly from your device to the model provider you configured. We are not a party to that exchange and never see its content.
What we collect
Nothing. OpenChat has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporters, no servers, and no user accounts. We do not assign you an identifier of any kind.
What stays on your device
- Your conversations and message history
- Attachments (images, files) you add to messages
- Saved Flows, scheduled-Flow configurations, and Flow run results
- Your API key, stored in the iOS Keychain. The key is accessible only after the device's first unlock and is bound to this device. It does not sync across devices.
- App preferences and settings
This data is stored inside your iOS application sandbox. It is removed when you delete the app.
What is sent over the network
When you send a chat message or run a Flow, OpenChat makes an HTTPS request directly from your device to the model provider you have configured. The request includes:
- Your prompt and any attachments included with that message
- Relevant conversation history for context
- Your API key in the Authorization header so the provider can authenticate you
We do not see, log, proxy, or store this request. Your relationship with the model provider is governed by that provider's privacy policy and terms.
Model providers OpenChat may send requests to include (but are not limited to): Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, DeepSeek, Meta, Perplexity, Moonshot, and other providers reachable through model gateways. Please consult the privacy policy of the provider whose API key you use.
If you enable Web Search for a message, the provider may forward part of your prompt to a web search service to fetch sources and citations. This is governed by that provider's policy.
Spotlight Search
OpenChat may index your chat titles and Flow names into iOS Spotlight so you can find them from your home screen. Spotlight indexes stay on your device and are governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Notifications
OpenChat uses iOS local notifications to alert you when scheduled Flows finish running. These notifications are generated on your device and are not delivered through our servers (we do not operate any).
Children
OpenChat is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used the app inappropriately, please uninstall it from their device.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. The "Last updated" date above will reflect the most recent change. Material changes will also be surfaced in the app.
